Benicia Community Soil
The 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly designated 2015 for the yearlong soils celebration as a way to increase understanding of the importance of soil for food security and essential ecosystem functions.
We want to make sure that people of Solano County understand the importance of healthy soil not only in the large farms, but in their backyards too.
Our demonstration food forests all had baseline soil tests. We will keep track of the soil’s health and vitality over the years, and share with the community how to keep soil healthy and productive indefinitely.
In the fall of 2015 we will have a large community meeting to talk about Benicia soil – its history, fertility (or lack of it) and some concerns that our community might have. We will have soil experts to give us practical advice on how to work with the foundation of life – our soil!
